Keepers Brew Solution

Prepare the Glove Box

Note:  Wearing your gloves is not necessary for this procedure.  
Everything that you see below MUST be placed within a prepared Glove Box before going forward.

Items Needed:
Processed and Inoculated Keepers Brew
Sterile Syringe 
Alcohol Soaked Paper Towel
Masking Tape
Sandwich Baggy

Take the Keepers Brew out of the refrigerator and place it into your Glove Box.

You should have received a sterile syringe w/needle for each Keepers Brew.  Place one, or both, into your Glove Box along with an alcohol soaked paper towel. 

Wipe-off the lid of the Brew with your 91% Alcohol (DO NOT TAKE OFF THE TAPE JUST YET!).

Assembling the Syringe and Needle.  

Take the Syringe out of its casing and set it aside.

Twist the white plastic that is covering the base of the needle until it comes completely off...discard it after this procedure.  

Now twist the base of the needle onto the threads of the syringe.  Keep screwing it down until you feel the green plastic covering 'click'.  DO NOT TAKE OFF THE GREEN PROTECTIVE COVERING JUST YET!

Place the syringe and needle to one side for now.

Get the Keepers Brew and start swirling it for about 30 seconds...noting the marble loosening any sediments that might stuck to the bottle of the jar (DO NOT SHAKE IT).

Pull back the tape on the lid of the Brew and remove the green protective covering of the needle.

Tilt the jar to one side so you can easily reach Brew solution.

Suck out 12cc of Brew solutions and remove the needle.  

Holding the needle in one hand quickly wipe the needle with alcohol and place the green protective covering back onto the needle...place to one side.

Roll back the tape back over the hole of the Brew.

Take a small piece of Masking Tape and wrap it around the base of the green protective covering and the syringe.  This will insure that no contaminates will enter the syringe while you prepare for the next steps.

Note:  Take a look at the syringe that you MAY have received with your kit.  Note how the Masking Tape is securing the green protective covering to the syringe body.  This is how you should tape your newly made Brew Syringe.

At this point you can place the Brew and the Brew Syringe (place the Brew Syringe into a baggie) into the refrigerator for safe keeping.

You are to treat the syringe of Brew just like a Spore Syringe when using it for inoculations of your substrate (Insert) jars.

If you are using the Spore Drop Tech. you are only to squirt one/two drops into each hole (allowing it to run down the inside of the jar).  One full syringe should do about 50/75 jars (MSC. Insert jars)!  I would not doubt that a 100 ml. of Keepers Brew would do about 1000 Inserts (substrate jars).
